Owning backyard chickens is a big responsibility, especially when it comes to their diet. These omnivorous animals will devour anything that’s in their way, so it’s very important for us to be the “gatekeepers” of their health and nutrition.

Since they don’t know how to control themselves when it comes to eating, we have to care for their diet, especially if we are looking to have healthy chickens that can provide us with healthy eggs.

Can chickens eat onion peels? or skins

In reality, most chickens will neglect and ignore onion peels or skins, but in general, onion peels will not harm your chickens.

So there isn’t too much to worry about here.

But I suggest you remove the peels from the onions before giving it to the chickens or any other animal. Because most likely it will end up as trash which you will have to clean after.

So avoid the hassle.

Can chickens eat onion rings?

I can say that some of them will probably eat it, but it’s not the best type of food for chickens.

Especially since is fried.

It is best if your chickens avoid high-fat foods.

If you want to give a treat to your chickens, I recommend you try with some fruits or vegetables; this will be much better for them.

And I’m not only talking about rings onions, avoid any type of fried food.

As you probably know, chickens love to eat different food types, but onions are not one of them. Although some chickens may like to eat onions, if you let them eat too much, you run the risk of changing the flavor of the chicken’s eggs.

But if you want to get rid of your onions, you can give it to them in small pieces mixed with other types of food, or if you have some pigs, you know they will definitely eat it.
