As you probably know, pigs can provide a great amount of meat and profit to pig farmers. In fact, this is one of the main reasons people get into pig farming. Plus, it can be quite affordable to have a pig farm if you consider the profits you will be making.

But in order to have a successful pig farm, you’ll need to make sure your pigs are eating healthy foods. For this reason, today, I explain whether or not pigs can eat spinach and how these vegetables can influence their overall diet.

Can pigs eat spinach? Yes, pigs can definitely eat spinach. This is a great antioxidant, but it also contains lots of nutrients and vitamins that will benefit the overall health of your pigs. You can also mix it up with other types of vegetables and fruits, and your pigs will love them.

But you also need to consider that pigs need to have a balanced diet, which means their primary source of nutrients should come from the pig feed, which is made mostly from corn.

After they have eaten their pig feed or corn, you can give them as much spinach as they want to eat.

Is Spinach Good for Pigs?

Yes, spinach is very good for pigs; this delicious vegetable, which originates in Persia, contains a high volume of nutrients that your pigs will benefit from if they eat it on a daily basis or as a treat.

This vegetable is related to the amaranth family and it is considered to be a very healthy option when feeding pigs.

It contains a high amount of antioxidants, it benefits eye health, reduces stress, and can help prevent cancer.

It can be fed raw, which is recommended, but do be careful in giving them processed spinach, like the one that comes in canned. Or if it’s over-saturated with salt or sugar, which are extremely dangerous for pigs to have.

Here are more of the nutrients you will find in spinach:

100 grams or 3.5 ounces of spinach contain 23 calories, 91% of water, 0.4 grams of fat, 2.2 grams of fiber, 0.4 grams sugar, 2.9 grams protein and .36 grams of carbs.

The carbs in vegetables are considered to be healthy so you are ok in giving them as much as they want to eat. And the fiber will help with your pigs digestive system.

Some of the vitamins and minerals you can find in spinach are:

Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K1, Calcium, Iron Folic acid, Potassium, Magnesium, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B9, and Vitamin E.

As you can see, spinach contains great amounts of nutrients that will definitely improve the overall health of your pigs.

This vegetable can be found almost everywhere, and as I previously mentioned, if your pigs like it, you can give them as much as possible.

But do make sure they are also eating the corn-based diet or pigs feed which should be their primary source of nutrients.

I also recommend using this type of vegetable to give the pigs a break from the pig feed, as they can get tired of eating the same foods. So by giving them spinach, you are also helping them eat more of the pig feed which we want them to eat.

Yes, pigs can definitely eat spinach; this is a great source of fiber, vitamins, and minerals that your pigs need to have on a daily basis. You can mix it up with pig feed or other vegetables. Your pigs will love it.

But it’s also important to remember that spinach should only be used as a secondary source of food.

They should mostly eat pig feed or corn. As they contain the necessary nutrients, protein, and calories, a pig needs to thrive.

Sometimes pigs can get tired of eating the pig feed, which is why I recommend using vegetables like spinach or fruits. This will give them the opportunity to break from the routine.

Another thing to consider is that pigs can develop their own taste for food, so don’t be surprised if some pigs reject spinach. You can persist in giving it to them, and maybe with time, they will start eating it.

A great tip to consider if your pigs are not eating a particular food is to try and mix up this particular food with their favorite one; this way, they might acquire a taste for it.

All types of pig breeds can eat spinach, and you can give them as much as they want to eat, but remember, the corn-based diet should be the priority.
