The application rate can be found in the fertilizer label, but if you don’t have it available, you can use 1lb of fertilizer per 1000 sq ft; with this industry-standard recommendation, you will perform the calculation in order to get the rate.
Remember to convert the nitrogen percentage into a decimal.
This is how it goes.
(1lb fertilizer x 1000 square feet) / 0.35 = 2.8 pound of 35-0-0 fertilizer is needed to cover 1000 square feet.

35-0-0 Fertilizer per Acre
To know the amount of pounds you need per acre, all you have to do is work with the previous results from our example.
Do the following.
1 acre = 43560 sq ft.
(2.8 lb x 43560 sq ft) / 1000 = 121.9 pounds of 35-0-0 fertilizer is needed to cover 1 acre.
35-0-0 Fertilizer Spreader Settings
You will find many opinions when it comes to spreader settings. I recommend using common sense.
One of the main rules to follow is you set up the opening of your spreader in a way that you are sure the biggest particle in your fertilizer is able to spread out, but making sure is not overdoing it.
So yes, you will have to test this. If not, try setting it up to ⅓ of the opening of your spreader.
I can’t be more specific because it just varies from spreader to spreader and even with different types of fertilizer.
